50 arrests made as riots flare for second night in Liverpool

But wasteland on the side of Smithdown Road, the main highway to the south of the city, gave rioters both a place to meet and ammunition in left over housebricks and debris.

Smithdown Road and Lodge Lane were closed at 10.30pm as large groups gathered leaving four fire engines and a fire officer’s vehicle damaged after missiles were thrown and a firefighter suffered slight cuts to his head and arm as a result of flying glass. The roads were re-opened at 3am.............
