Ruby Princess arrives in Liverpool

A beautiful mega-liner Ruby Princess is arriving in Liverpool this morning.

The vessel is the second largest in the Princess Cruises fleet and can carry 3,080 passengers and 1,200 crew members.

The Oldest Pear Head

The 90,000-tonne ship moored at 9.30am at the city’s cruise liner terminal where she was set to meet Camilla, HRH Duchess of Cornwall.

Queen Victoria, which is the second largest Cunard ship ever built, is on a historic UK tour.

Her trip round the British Isles is to mark the 170th anniversary this month of the first vessel to leave Liverpool – Cunard’s spiritual home – in 1840. The Duchess , who named the liner in December 2007, will attend a ceremonial exchange of plaques to mark the occasion.

More than 100 ship lovers gathered at the Pier Head to watch Queen Victoria dock in the Mersey.

Arthur Jones, 75, from Crosby, said: “In one word, it’s fantastic. Her sheer size is amazing.

“We’ve always admired the Cunard Line. It’s nice to see one of theirs back at its spiritual home.”

Dan Waldman, from New Brighton, said: “It’s a magnificent ship. It doesn’t matter what they say, Cunard’s still look the best. There’s something very majestic about them.”
